Katie and Pam guard the luggage
as we arrive at Heathrow.

Susan, Charlie and Katie
are kind of jammed in among the luggage.

... almost too much luggage to fit in the car!

Pam called "shotgun"
... which is on the left side in the UK!

The utterly charming Bear Hotel
in the middle of downtown Woodstock

Our room is just inside the door between
the Porsche and the Audi.
(Ooh - are we outclassed here?)

This is our room - nice!

Looking down the street toward our hotel

Katie walks down the streets of Woodstock

... no doubt checking out the shopping.

The intrepid group of USA Cavalier breeders

also checks out the shopping.

Woodstock's history goes back to the
16th century.  Some of the door frames were
fashioned from timbers from the galleons of
the Spanish Armada!

Enjoying a refreshingly COOL outdoor lunch.

Our tour of Blenheim Palace

The group in front of the entrance gate:
Jaime, Anne, Pam, Katie, Charlie, Susan

The formal entrance gate.
The land for the palace was given to John Churchill,
the first Duke of Marlborough, by Queen Ann
in recognition of his victory in the Battle of Blenheim
in Bavaria.

Today, the 11th Duke lives here.

The bridge over the lake -
The bridge originally housed hunting guests,
and was constructed from the stones of the lodge
that stood nearby before the palace was built.
The lake is man-made, and took 10 years to complete
(no power tools!)

In front of the palace:
Mary, Liz, Jaime, Susan, Katie, Anne, Charlie

The two of us by the formal gardens
in back of the palace.

Shopping in Oxford.

At night, the village of Woodstock
is peaceful and downright sleepy.

The Dog Show - Day One

Saturday's events included a match between
Cavaliers and English Toy Spaniels

Fun activities were held outside the tent,
within view of the palace.

Kevan Berry visits with two legendary
UK Cavalier Club members,
Jane Bowdler and Caroline Gatheral.
Jane was signing copies of Tina Homes'
new book about the history of the breed.

Three Charlies!
Actually, did you know that the Disney
character Captain Hook was based on the
likeness of King Charles II ?

Katie chats with two of our UK Club friends,
 Elaine Berwick and Sheena MacLaine,
who serves as the chair of the show committee.

Wesley Shiffman sets up her Cavalier,
in formal dress, for a photo in front of the palace.

Formal Dinner at the Palace

At the entrance gate -
Jane, Pam, Jaime, Anne, Katie and Charlie

Arrival at the palace ... Pimm's for all!

Greeting friends ... old and new.

Dinner in the Orangery was excellent.
The food was elegant and the staff presented it
with flair.  Do the Duke and Dutchess eat this way
every day?

Anne, Charlie and Katie...
and a few bottles of wine!

An elegant place setting!

Pam makes friends with the Master of Ceremomies -
She does love things in red!

Mary Grace and Ted Eubank are out
for a good time.

Charlie and Katie
also enjoying the ambience.

The Dog Show - Day Two

With unbelievably sunny weather, dog judge
Jeanie Montford inspects the Veteran Dog class.

Brian Rix shows Ch. Ricksbury Royal Legend
in Veterans.

Ch. Wandriss Entertainer, JW -
another impressive veteran.

In the Minor Puppy Dog class,
Brian has a good laugh with Robert Lamont.
Mr. Lamont will be judging in October
at the CKCSC-USA national.

Susan, Liz and Mary
enjoy sitting ringside in the sun.

Norma Inglis shows Ch Craigowl Billy Elliot
in the Parade of Champions.

The show committee -
What a job they did to organize
such a big event!

Winner of the Dog CC and Best in Show,
Ch. Cinderlace Cromwell, JW

Reserve Dog CC,
Miletree Constellation, JW

Ms. Fry awards the Bitch CC to
Hollambrie Pink Sapphire

The bitch winners line up
to take a few bow-wows.

The judges confer before making their final pick.

Best in Show!

That's all from the dog show,
but you're welcome to keep scrolling down
and follow us on the rest of our adventures...

Our visit to Scotland

The Crescent - our bed and breakfast.

The downstairs sitting room.

Our bedroom.

Katie, Anne, Jaime and Pam
on the beach at Ayr.  Hard to tell,
but it is August!

The Heads of Ayr -
an outcropping of rock that
juts out into the Firth of Clyde.

Katie and Pam
with the Heads of Ayr in the background.

Anne stands in front of the school
she attended as a young girl.

Anne visits with her old friends,
Colin and Di.

Katie with Anne Fairbairne
in her home.

We went for dinner at the Brig O'Doon,
only this one's not a Chadwick.

The name "Brig O'Doon" literally means
"Bridge over the river Doon."
So guess what this is ...

Katie and Anne Fairbairne
in the Brig O'Doon lobby.

Anne F., Pam, Anne E. and Jaime
at the dinner table.

We came out of the restaurant
after 9 PM, and there was still light
in the sky.

One of the locals demonstrates how
the "Electric Brae" works.
Due to an optical illusion, the road ahead
appears to be sloping downhill,
yet when he pushes his car, it just
in what appears to be an uphill direction.

The view across the road from the Electric Brae,
with Ailsa Craig visible in the sea.

The Turnberry Hotel, just down the road
a bit from Ayr.

Pam is greeted at the Turnberry
by your typical Scottish doorman.

The 18th fairway and clubhouse
at the Turnberry golf course,
where the British Open was played
last year.

Charlie in front of the golf course...
no, he didn't play that day.

The view of the golf course from
the hotel dining room, where we had tea.

The lighthouse and part of the golf course,
with the Isle of Arran in the background.

The view of Culzean Castle from
the Coast Highway.

Driving along the Coast Highway.

Our visit to London

The courtyard at our hotel.

Katie basks in the "English sunshine."

Buckingham Palace

Did I just see this guard move?

Charlie and Katie at the front gate.
We didn't get in this way -
she wasn't home.

Katie and Charlie on the back steps
of Buckingham Palace, leading into
the Royal Gardens.

Charlie on the path through the gardens.

A magpie, thieving his way
around the Palace grounds.

The entrance to the Green Park.
It's amazing how ornate they make everything!

Katie sitting in front of
the Queen Victoria Memorial.

The London Eye -
but it kind of looks like the
eye of the storm!
Londoners say that, with their weather,
you can experience all 4 seasons
within a day.

Big Ben -
I suppose we should not be surprised
to discover that it has a Westminster chime!

The newest MP!

The changing of the Horse Guard.

A Day in Paris

The train station in London -
getting on the Eurostar.

The Notre Dame Cathedral.

Charlie standing in front of
the big tall pointy thing...
whatever it's called.

The Eiffel Tower was mobbed
with tourists...

so we decided to sneak around to
the side and climb up!
(OK, just kidding about the climb)

Charlie stands triumphantly
in front of the arch.

Katie enjoys her wine
at a sidewalk cafe on the Champs Elysees.

Our last stop of the day
was the Louvre.

Thanks for allowing us to share our memories with you.

We're now going home, so you'll just have to come visit
if you want to see more pictures!
